I have some serious disagreements with chain messages, particularly the “christian” ones.

They are anything but Christian (that’s why I left it lowercase and put it in quotes)

It is good to send people positive messages

It is good to uplift others in the name of Christ.

It is good to occasionally pass on a good message

However, these chain messages are doing more damage than good in my opinion, and I refuse to participate in perpetuating the lies that are embedded in them.

It is true there is scripture that says if we deny Christ he will deny us. In fact it is in two places

Matthew 10:33 “but whoever denies me before men, I will deny before my father”

2 Timothy 2:12 ” if we endure, we shall reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us”

However to insinuate that because I choose not to pass on a chain text would mean that I am denying Christ before men is absurd.

To try and place that guilt upon a person simply to advance your own self is much more damaging, and it comes across as judgmental.

Another lie that hides at the end of these sometimes inspirational messages is an indication that if you pass the message on to a certain number of people then you will receive a benefit.

I have read many that say, “if you pass this on to 10 people including me, God will answer your prayers about a relationship, or a financial matter”

To suggest that God will answer my prayer if I send a text is also absurd.

God answers prayers and it is in no way contingent on texting (if you have texted and not had a prayer answered please give up on chain texts, not on prayer)

The scripture says

James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for one another that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man are effective and powerful”

John 14:13 “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father”

These are some important truths I want you all to know. God does have a plan for you, and it is a plan to prosper you and not to harm you.(Jer 29:11) This plan will in no way be hindered or helped through advancing chain messages.

He does however want you to spread the truth, and spread the love, most importantly spread the Gospel.
